Julie Danyew Second Grade Teacher
To serve the Lord is an incredible adventure! In 1994 I was asked to pray about coming on board as a third grade teacher by the founding pastor of Calvary Chapel of Vista and the Principal of Calvary Christian School. This was exciting as I had been involved in teaching Calvary Chapel Vista’s Family Camp for many years and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Even though the majority of my work experience was in the corporate world, I felt that maybe God had something different for me. After investing five months of my time interning with the then current third grade teacher I accepted the position joyfully. Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
It is my desire to see that every student enrolled in my class is loved, nurtured in the Lord, as well as taught the fundamentals required by the California State Board of Education. I endeavor to express to my students that they are special, created in His image and have been given unique gifts to equip them to make a difference. Each child is expected to work hard, take responsibility and have fun. . Psalm 139:14 “I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are they works; and that my soul knows right well.”
The students spend the course of their day working on the basics of reading, writing, math, and spelling. They are also taught history, science and handwriting. Three times a week they have P.E. Once a week they go to the library, have extended worship time in class, and attend our elementary chapel service. They are afforded educationally rich field trips and are spoken the truths of God’s word in all subjects throughout the day.
This is truly the most rewarding career. It is my privilege to have served the Lord these past fourteen years as a teacher here at
Orange Coast College,
Golden West College,
